For Project Vulcan, I aimed to design the computer interface to align seamlessly with the technology depicted in Alien (1979) and Alien: Romulus. Drawing direct inspiration from the Nostromo’s computers, I wanted the system to feel as though it existed within the same timeline as these films. Each screen was meticulously designed in Illustrator before being animated in After Effects, with careful attention given to replicating the character, motion, and sounds of the original source material. The interface itself plays a narrative role—if observed closely, the screens reveal Rhett’s search for answers after being prematurely awakened from cryo-sleep. In the original story, he discovers that he is trapped aboard the Vulcan, with the alien as the only other crew member to have been revived. To enhance authenticity, I introduced visual artefacts by playing back the animations and sound effects through a CRT monitor. This process added the distinctive texture, distortion, and atmosphere that define the retro-futuristic aesthetic of the Alien universe.
