Synopsis

Working under guidance from Prop Designer Nick Pledge, I worked on this miniature castle set as a part of an advertising job with Moose Toys for their Stretch Strikers toy line.

Making a sturdy rig
This project was an interesting challenge, requiring a scratch-built solution designed specifically to accommodate a camera shot. Practicality was the top priority, ensuring the setup could be easily reset for multiple takes during filming. The goal was to create a mechanism that could reliably pop out three beers from an Esky.

Hidden functionality
Under Nick Pledge's guidance, we constructed a plywood box structure designed around the concept of using three drawer sliders to create linear movement for pushing cans. To achieve this, we laser-cut a series of clear acrylic claws that cradled the cans while concealing the mechanism beneath the ice, ensuring smooth and predictable movement with each attempt. The entire setup was fitted inside the esky and filled with ice, where we conducted a series of tests to fine-tune the mechanism for reliability.
