Synopsis

-

Working under guidance from Prop Designer Nick Pledge, I worked on this miniature city set as a part of an advertising job with Moose Toys for their Beast Lab toy line.

First time on set

Working under an art director

As a set dresser, I played a key role in preparing and decorating the set for the commercial shoot. This involved meticulously arranging and enhancing the buildings and miniature set to create the desired aesthetic and align with the director's vision. Working closely with the director, I adjusted and repositioned set components as needed to accommodate the dynamic demands of the shoot. This required attention to detail, quick decision-making, and a strong understanding of the production's timing and efficiency needs. My work ensured the set remained visually cohesive and adaptable throughout the filming process.

Working with different materials

Under the guidance of Nick Pledge, I employed a variety of techniques to create the buildings and set. Using CAD, I designed modular roof details that could be easily placed on different structures. These were resin-printed to achieve a high level of detail. The buildings themselves were constructed from laser-cut acrylic, which I assembled and then intentionally damaged using tools to simulate the destruction caused by a monster. The resulting debris was repurposed to scatter around the set, adding authenticity to the scene. The intricate details came together beautifully during filming, where strategically placed lights inside the buildings created the effect of internal illumination, enhancing the set's realism. This project was not only creatively fulfilling but also gave me valuable experience in working at the fast pace of the industry.
